Job Description
- Perform routine and specialized MRI procedures to produce quality diagnostic images.
- Work independently with sound judgment and clinical skills to ensure safe, precise, and timely procedures.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers to gain cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations to ensure patient privacy and safety.
- May assist in orienting new staff and perform specific procedures as needed.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct a variety of diagnostic MRI exams using complex stationary and mobile equipment.
- Complete routine and priority tasks within departmental time frames.
- Assist physicians during diagnostic MRI and guidance imaging for invasive procedures.
- Educate patients on procedures, medications, and contrast media effects professionally.
- Mentor students and new technologists to build their skills and confidence.
- Perform clerical duties including answering phones, updating appointments, and managing electronic health records (EHR).
- Maintain inventory and order supplies to keep stock levels.
- Implement radiation safety standards (ALARA) to minimize exposure.
- Clean and disinfect equipment after each procedure.
- Inspect and calibrate equipment, document quality control results, and report malfunctions.
Certifications Required
- CRT or ARMRIT (MRI) or ARRT (MRI)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Other certifications may be required depending on position (e.g., ACLS, PALS) but BLS is mandatory.
Education
- Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technologist Program or equivalent education/experience accepted.
Skills and Knowledge
- General knowledge of MRI principles, procedures, views, and equipment.
- Experience responding to traumas and hospital emergencies is beneficial.
- Ability to perform routine MRI exams with understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to explain sensitive information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Well-developed time management and organizational skills to prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender search, education verification, and others as applicable.
- Drug screening (9-panel, excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law) within 6 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal required)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or facial hair).
- Various facility-specific documents and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start.

- Must provide full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- Employment verification required for up to 7 years.
- Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams may be required.
- Candidate must comply with all facility-specific orientation, confidentiality, and conduct policies.
