Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Unit

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit & Shift Details

  • Unit: HVTI-Stepdown
  • Shift: 3x12-hour shifts only (D/N rotating shifts: 7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm)
  • Shift rotation may be required to meet hospital operational needs
  • Must work at least every other holiday

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel
  • Minimum 18 months of recent Stepdown experience (travel experience accepted)
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Progressive Care experience preferred but not required

Licensure & Certifications

  • Must have permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
  • Required certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, AACME, or Bluecloud only)
  • ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate pass required during orientation

Orientation & Testing

  • Pass/fail ECG and medication testing completed onsite during orientation
  • Qualivis – Lotus system used for submitting hours worked

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
  • Fit mask test (3M N95) within 12 months and updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel within 12 months, updated annually
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)

Background & Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
  • Background check required prior to start, including:
    • FCRA compliant 7-year search
    • SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender registry, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months, updated annually (code 4723.09 Nursing)
  • Education verification required for all candidates
  • References: 2 required from employment within 1 year, from manager/supervisor/charge nurse/director
  • Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area

Competency & Training

  • Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
  • SafeMedicate prep materials provided for pass/fail exam during orientation

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have permanent Ohio or compact state nursing license in hand before starting
  • Prior travel experience is NOT explicitly required for this position
  • Candidates must be prepared to complete all required documentation and certifications before or at orientation
  • Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification
  • Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need to update physical exam, chest X-ray, and eye exam
