Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (RRT / Pediatrics)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with Pediatrics focus
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities required
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Years of Experience Required: Minimum 2 years (Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant experience required)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

- South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (RCP) license required at start
- Preferred: Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Scheduling & Other Requirements
- Open to block scheduling with prior approval (not guaranteed)
- Radius rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
- State license must be active and in hand at start
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form)
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background checks including:
- 7-year history with SSN trace, statewide, national criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated every 30 days
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts preferred as placeholder if needed)
- Clinical references (2 required)
- Employment application with full work history and no unaccounted gaps
- Work history verification of last 3 clinical employers
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only; not required for pediatric units
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC; required for all clinical staff
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for all pediatric units except Pediatric OR
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP only, full eCard with QR code required
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – As required; not required for ER RNs
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – AWHONN Intermediate required for Labor & Delivery, preferred for Mother/Baby
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam – Required as applicable
- Color Blind Testing – Required prior to start
- Competency exams – Required; pediatric OR competency preferred for pediatric OR assignments
- Tech Certification Verification – NBRC for RRTs required
- State License Verification – Primary source verification required; SC RRT license mandatory
- NURSYS verification for RNs/LPNs/LVNs as applicable
- IV Therapy certification for select LPNs if applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification – Required for ER units as applicable
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or documented positive with follow-up chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella – positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Hepatitis B – titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella – positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Respiratory safety clearance and annual fit testing required
- Sterile Processing Techs (if applicable) require additional physical assessment and lab panels
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Upload COVID and flu vaccination documentation into facility system
- Passport-style badge photo required before start
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties (not applicable for RRT)
- All required documents must be submitted and approved prior to start
Notes
- Candidates must have an active South Carolina RRT license at the time of start
- Facility may call off shifts but guarantees a minimum number of hours
- Hurricane season may impact assignment availability and require emergency response participation
