Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Job Description

• Unit: 17 James Medical Oncology (Day/Night or Nights)
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Staffing ratios goal: 1:4 (can be 1:5)
• Weekends: Variable based on unit needs
• No set/blocked scheduling (self-schedule requests submitted and balanced)
• Orientation:

  • Week 1: Monday-Friday day shift orientation
  • Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with preceptor
• Floating required to other MedSurg Oncology units

Patient Population

• Adults and Geriatrics
• Diagnoses include:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Lung Cancer
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Pancreatic Cancer
  • Colon Cancer
  • Esophageal Cancer
  • Antineoplastic chemotherapy encounters

Unit Details

• Cares for all solid tumor cancers throughout the cancer journey (new diagnosis, treatment, end-of-life care)
• Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
• Patients with true med-surg issues

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required
• Certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
• Skills:

  • Telemetry interpretation and monitoring
• Computerized Charting: EPIC system

Preferred Qualifications

• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certification preferred
• Previous travel experience preferred (not required)

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start (including FBI/BCI fingerprinting)
• Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
• Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
• Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required (code 3701.881) with strict timelines and renewal policies
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
• High school diploma or GED verification (for RRTs)
• Employment application and skills checklist required
• 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership)

Certifications and Competencies

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (check unit-specific requirements)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
• Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
• Unit-specific competency exams required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually
• NURSYS license verification required within 30 days of start
• Other certifications (PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification) may be required depending on unit

Health Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Notes

• Candidates must be prepared for variable weekend shifts and floating to other oncology med-surg units
• Self-scheduling allows input on preferred shifts but final schedule is balanced by management
• Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for this role
