Travel Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Columbus, Ohio

Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 16 weeks (interpreted from 16)
  • Unit: Mixed Acuity - PCU and MS patients
  • Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; schedule may include days, nights, or a combination based on department needs. Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
  • Orientation:
    • Week 1: Monday-Friday, day shift orientation
    • Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with preceptor

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years RN experience required
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • EPIC experience required
  • Skills: IV starts, telemetry, tracheostomy management
  • Patient ratio: 1:5
  • Must be able to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Prior travel experience preferred (not required)

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification required
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) — check unit-specific requirements

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams required
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with some unit exceptions)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year of start)
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents required:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • TB questionnaire
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption possible)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager/director or formal leadership role (charge RN acceptable as second reference)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Compliance with facility dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

Notes

  • Self-scheduling requests are accepted but final schedule is based on staffing priorities
  • Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory for this role

This position offers a dynamic work environment with mixed acuity patients on a progressive care and medical-surgical telemetry unit. The role requires flexibility in shift assignments and the ability to float to other units as needed.
