Description
Job Opportunity: Certified OR Tech / Surgical Tech (CST)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Surgical Services (Operating Room)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (10:30 AM - 11:00 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: As needed
- On-Call Requirement: Up to 2 call shifts per month (7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM on weekends)
- Holiday Rotation: Required
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet facility needs or between like units/sister facilities
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience as a Certified Surgical Technologist
- Preferred Experience: Neuro (spines/crani), ENT (flaps), Robotics (Da Vinci Xi) cases highly preferred
- Certifications:
- NBSTSA Certified Surgical Technologist (MUSC does NOT accept NCCT)
- BLS (American Heart Association or American Red Cross)
- Radiation Badge: Required (must be provided by agency)
- Trauma Level: Level 1 trauma center experience preferred
- First-timers: Accepted

Scheduling & Work Environment
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval
- Local radius: 60 miles
- Locals may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be broken down to add up to 1 shift
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9, E-Verify)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Annual background check including multiple searches (SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, FACIS, etc.)
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
- Employment history verification (last 3 clinical employers)
- References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable
- Color blindness testing prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before orientation
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, business casual attire)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Initial physical exam and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually (specific mask models required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive history
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B: titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted) during flu season
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- COVID vaccines highly preferred; if declined, must complete MUSC Vaccination Declination form
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge processing may take 5-7 days; candidates cannot start without it
- MUSC requires primary source verification of active, unencumbered South Carolina CST license
- MUSC accepts walk-through (temporary) licensure process for SC license under certain conditions
- All licensure and certification hits must be approved by MUSC
- Sterile Processing Techs have additional physical assessment and lab requirements (not applicable for this CST role)
