Job Opportunity: RRT-NICU (Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics)

Location: Allentown, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in both neonatal and pediatric units depending on facility needs.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience in a Level 3 or higher NICU or a minimum of 1 year PICU experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of overall experience required.
  • First-time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience NOT required).
  • No on-call duties.
  • Return to Office (RTO) requests must be approved by the facility.
  • Every Other Week (EOW) and Every Other Holiday (EOH) schedules.

Required Qualifications

  • License: State Respiratory Therapist license required (RRT).
  • Certifications:
    • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
    • Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years total experience in specialty.
  • At least 1 year experience in Level 3 or higher NICU or PICU.
  • Prior travel experience is not required.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Comprehensive background checks covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire.
  • Pennsylvania Department of Human Services fingerprint clearance required within 90 days of start.
  • Education verification for highest level of education.
  • State-specific searches including Pennsylvania Child Abuse Search, PATCH, and Medicheck within required timeframes.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 2 months of start.
  • Fit test for respirator use (required annually).
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (annual updates not required)
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (positive titer or vaccines required)
    • Hepatitis B (positive antibody titer or completed vaccine series; declinations not accepted)
  • Drug testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start.
  • COVID-19 vaccination or signed declination with facility-specific form.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required unless declination accepted under specific conditions.

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (passing score 80%, 2 attempts allowed).
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (passing score 88%, 3 attempts allowed).
  • Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication required for RNs and LVNs (not applicable here but noted for reference).
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and other facility-specific acknowledgments required.

References and Documentation

  • Minimum of 2 professional references from employment within 12 months of start.
  • Complete employment application including 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps over 90 days.

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must be medically cleared annually for respirator use via RespSafety virtual questionnaire.
  • Photo ID and badge requirements apply for new candidates starting after specified dates.
  • No on-call responsibilities.
  • Schedule includes every other week and every other holiday off.

This position is ideal for respiratory therapists with NICU or PICU experience looking for a 13-week travel contract in Pennsylvania. First-time travelers are welcome.
