Description
Travel/Contract ICU Registered Nurse
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ICU)
- Shift: 3x12 hour day shifts (06:45 - 19:15)
- Average Daily Census: 10 patients
- Unit Type: Trauma/Burn ICU with medical and cardiac overflow
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet recognized
- Charting System: Cerner
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year ICU experience required
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- On-call: Yes
- Floating: Travelers may float within scope to other ICUs (Medical, Neuro, Cardiac), IMC, and general floors on modified teams if needed
- License: Active Illinois RN license required (no pending licenses accepted)
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
- NIHSS, TNCC, and TNS preferred but not required
Additional Requirements
- Background Checks: Comprehensive background checks required within 30 days of start, including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender, and federal exclusions
- Education Verification: Initial degree verification required
- Competency Exam: Required for all clinical candidates
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, must confirm good physical and mental health, free of communicable disease, and ability to perform job functions without restrictions
- Fit Mask Test: Required prior to start (specific mask types accepted)
- TB Testing: 2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold within 1 year of start; chest x-ray required if positive test
- Immunizations: Documentation or proof of immunity required for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Drug Testing: 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
- Flu Vaccination: Required or approved medical/religious exemption for 2025-26 season
- References: Two professional references required
- Photo for Badge: Color photo required before start
Work Environment & Notes
- Travelers are the first to float off the unit if needed
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Guaranteed hours with some client call-off allowances
This position is ideal for ICU RNs with at least 1 year of experience looking for a travel contract in a Level I trauma, Magnet-recognized acute care hospital. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are welcome.
