Job Opportunity: Surg Tech 1 - Open Heart
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 20 weeks
Job Summary
Provides surgical technology support for direct and indirect care during operative/invasive procedures, specifically in open heart surgery. Assists the surgeon by preparing and managing surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring efficiency and accuracy throughout the procedure.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up sterile field and scrub prior to induction
- Ensure instruments, equipment, and sutures are appropriate, complete, and functional
- Organize back table and mayo stand for cases
- Use resources wisely, avoiding unnecessary opening of supplies
- Adapt to surgeon’s technique and preferences, including running mayo independently
- Scrub on simple to complex procedures across various specialties
- Confidently assist during routine and emergency procedures
- Anticipate and provide appropriate equipment and interventions during surgery
- Communicate effectively with surgical team, including verbal and nonverbal cues
- Participate in case closing activities such as dressing application and room turnover
- Maintain patient privacy and promote a positive work environment
- Participate in required call and assist others as needed
- Contribute to quality improvement and efficient unit operations
Required Qualifications
- Valid CVOR Technologist license in Illinois
- Minimum 1 year of CVOR Technologist experience within the last year
- Surgical Technologist experience
- Associate degree in a related field or Certificate of Completion in Surgical Technology
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
Experience
