Job Summary: Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT) - Travel/Contract

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7pm-7am), weekdays, some weekends, float required
Facility may consider 4x10 shifts (discuss at interview)

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only, no pending certs allowed
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only, no pending certs allowed
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, required for Pediatrics
  • NALS (Neonatal Advanced Life Support) for Pediatrics
  • CRT or RRT credential required

Required Licenses

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license (RRT or CRT) for West Virginia or compact state
  • Valid Driver’s License required
  • Pending state license accepted

Required Documents & Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
  • Social Security Card (legible)
  • Residency Declaration Form if working on a compact license
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Sex Offender Search within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Primary source verification of state license within 30 days of start
  • Reference: 1 reference required from a manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within 1 year

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, or PA, confirming good health and no limitations
  • Annual fit mask testing (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or Aura 9205) or PAPR accommodation if needed
  • Negative TB test within 3 months of start (2-step skin test or preferred QGold/TSpot) or negative chest X-ray for positive responders
  • Annual TB questionnaire for positive TB responders
  • Required vaccinations or proof of immunity for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no declinations accepted; medical/religious exemptions require approval)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series or titer with declination option)
    • Varicella
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start, including a full panel (Amphetamines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Phencyclidine, Benzodiazepines, Methadone, Propoxyphene)
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct-April)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not mandatory; proof or signed declination accepted

Additional Information

  • Orientation occurs every other Tuesday, lasts 2 days (Thursday and Friday)
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • Scrubs provided
  • Free parking for travelers
  • Must submit time off requests two weeks prior and get manager approval
  • Must complete required inservice training modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
  • Must complete annual skills checklist for specialty
  • Floating to sister facilities required as needed

Summary

This is a travel Respiratory Therapist position requiring at least 1 year of experience in critical care/general care for adults and/or pediatrics. Night shifts with some weekend work and floating are required. Candidates must hold current RRT or CRT licensure and have required certifications including ACLS, BLS, PALS, and NALS for pediatrics. The facility supports first-time travelers and pending state licenses. Comprehensive health, background, and vaccination requirements must be met prior to start.
