Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Oncology Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Shift: Nights, either 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts (1845-0715)
  • Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: Will float within scope as needed
  • Block Schedule: Schedule requests can be discussed with manager
  • Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
  • On-call: Not required

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience within the last year
  • Administration of chemotherapy experience, including:
    • Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
    • Continuous infusion and IV push administration of chemotherapy
    • Oral administration of chemotherapy
    • Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
    • Monitoring chemotherapy and recognizing/communicating abnormal lab values
  • Accessing ports experience
  • Administration of coagulation factors experience

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches required within 30 days of start
  • Drug screening (9-panel) required within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • TB (2-step PPD, TSPOT, or Qgold)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or signed declination)
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
  • Competency exam and skills checklist required for all clinical candidates
  • Photo for badge required within one week of signing contract
  • References: 2 professional references required for all clinical travel candidates

Work Restrictions & Notes

  • Ideally no more than 5 days of Return to Work (RTO) restrictions
  • Guaranteed hours policy allows client to call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours
  • Candidates may be called off or floated as needed

This position is suitable for oncology RNs with at least 1 year of oncology experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a Level I trauma, Magnet-recognized acute care hospital. Prior travel experience is not required, and first-time travelers are accepted.
