Job Opportunity: CVOR Tech (Surgical Services)
Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Minimum of 18 months recent Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Surgical Technologist (ST) experience required.
- Must have 18 months permanent CVOR ST experience prior to travel assignment.
- Experience required in Vascular, Robotic, and Neuro surgical cases.
- Traveler must work at least every other holiday.
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate medication administration exam will be completed during orientation; passing scores are required.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- NBSTSA Certification: National certification for CVOR Surgical Technologists required.
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or American Red Cross certification required and must be current at time of submission.
- State License: Valid state license for Surgical Technologist (if applicable).
- Driver’s License/State ID: Government-issued photo ID required; must be carried while on assignment. Required for OR Tech First Assistants (CSFA) and RNFAs.
- Additional Certifications:
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, CNOR certifications are not required for this role.
- Pass/Fail Testing (Medication & ECG) will be conducted at orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 1.5 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Technologist experience.
- CVOR Technologist experience within the last year is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Experience with robotic surgical cases.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming ability to safely perform essential job functions.
- Fit Mask (N95) test within 12 months of start, updated annually.
- Immunizations and documentation required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 12 months)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal Flu vaccination (declinations not accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted).
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.
Background Checks & Compliance
- Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search. Must be updated annually and for breaks in service of 2+ months.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually. Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09. Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
Orientation & Training
- Completion of facility-specific onboarding modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
- SafeMedicate prep materials provided for medication exam preparation.
- Baseline competency exams (medication administration and ECG interpretation) required at orientation with minimum passing scores (SafeMedicate 90%, ECG 80%).
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
- Candidates must be prepared to comply with all facility and agency policies regarding documentation, immunizations, and testing.
- Candidates with gaps in employment or returning to the facility after a break may have additional requirements for references and module completion.
