Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

Specialty: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Urology/Nephrology)
Shift: Nights, either 4x12 or 3x12 (1845-0715)
Unit: 25 bed unit, average daily census 23
Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
Floating: May float to other Medical Surgical units within scope
Block Scheduling: May try to accommodate but not guaranteed
Local Candidates: Accepted, no radius restrictions
On-call: Not required
Charge Nurse: Will work charge as needed

Required Experience & Skills

Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in medical/surgical nursing (higher value confirmed)
First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have a solid RN foundation and >2 years med/surg experience
Required Clinical Experience:
- Medical/Surgical and Telemetry experience
- Cardiac monitoring and emergency response (telemetry, rapid response teams)
- Genitourinary/Renal care (pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure)
- IV therapy/phlebotomy (blood product administration, central line blood draw, peripheral line care, PICC line management, starting IVs)
- Medication skills (heparin administration)
- Respiratory care (chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen)
- Professional knowledge (isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac)
Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Illinois
Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Medical Surgical and Telemetry experience
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing
Experience with Rapid Response Teams
Blood product administration skills
Central line blood draw experience
Peripheral line care and management
PICC line management
Starting IVs
Heparin administration
Experience with chest tubes including Emerson/Pleur-evac systems
CPAP/BiPAP experience
High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) experience
Experience using Cerner electronic medical records

Additional Notes

RTO Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days off
Guaranteed Hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; excess cancellations billed
Scrub Color: Any solid color scrubs allowed
Parking: Permit required, no cost

Prior Travel Experience

Not explicitly required; first-time travelers accepted with solid RN foundation and >2 years med/surg experience

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with strong clinical skills in urology/nephrology and telemetry, comfortable working night shifts and floating within medical surgical units.

Generally speaking, Host Healthcare doesn't always have the highest rate on the market. Having gone with competing agencies in the past, I have often been disappointed and unsupported and ultimately found it wasn't worth the small pay bump
