Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lansing, Michigan
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse for a Level 1 Trauma Center with Stroke and Heart Center capabilities, including a Pediatric Emergency Department. The role involves working in a high-acuity environment with patient ratios typically ranging from 1:5-6, potentially up to 1:8 during busy periods or holidays.
Work Schedule
- Weekend shifts required: 3 weekends (Friday-Sunday) per 4-week schedule
- Floating to Pediatrics possible
- No on-call duties
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
- Current Michigan RN license
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - American Heart Association
- BCLS (Basic Life Support) - American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN as an alternative
- NIH Stroke Certification
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) preferred but not mandatory
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience
- Level I trauma experience required
- Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Experience with EPIC electronic charting system
Preferred Experience
- Experience with continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
- Triage experience
- Unit accepts first-time travelers (prior travel experience not required)
Additional Information
- High patient-to-nurse ratios expected (1:5-6, up to 1:8)
- Must agree to weekend schedule requirements
- Modules related to orientation are not billable and require approximately 5 hours
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card
- E-Verify compliance
- Background checks including 7-year history, criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, education verification
- Physical exam within 12 months noting latex sensitivity
- OSHA Respirator Fit Mask form completed prior to start
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray if positive PPD, plus annual TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (THC included, no medical marijuana cards accepted)
- Flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- References from previous employers (minimum 2)
- Current resume with 7-year work history
- Skills checklist and competency exams as required by unit
Summary
This is a travel contract position for an ER Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years ER experience and Level I trauma experience. The role requires multiple certifications and the ability to work a demanding weekend schedule in a high-acuity trauma center environment. First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
