Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery
Location: Silverdale, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurse for a travel contract. The ideal candidate will have strong clinical skills in L&D, be comfortable managing deliveries independently, and able to circulate in C-sections.
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Birthing Center / Mother Baby
- Total L&D Beds: 34
- OR Suites for C-Sections: 2
- Triage Beds: 2
- Postpartum Beds: 14
- Average Births: 150-180 per month (over 2,100 annually)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:2 in L&D, 1:3-4 in couplets
- 24/7 in-house OB/GYN, hospitalist, neonatal nurse practitioner, and OB anesthesia provider
- Support Staff: One surgical tech 24/7, patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift
- Tele/Monitor Techs available for PACU after C-section
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring System: Centricity-perinatal
Required Qualifications
- Active Washington State RN license (pending license submissions accepted; temp license takes ~4 weeks)
- Minimum 2 years of L&D nursing experience (1 year considered if candidate has multiple prior travel contracts)
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP
- Preferred: Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification
- Must have LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) experience
- Ability to titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin
- Comfortable attending deliveries independently, assisting with catching and transitioning babies, and circulating in C-sections
- Prior travel experience required (no first-time travelers)
- Must provide 2 years of references with application
Work Environment & Scheduling
- Block scheduling available upon request
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Days: Sat & Sun; Nights: Fri & Sat)
- Holiday rotation with permanent staff
- Standby call with 45-minute response time when placed on standby
- No floating outside the Mother Baby unit; travelers must function in both Labor & Delivery and Postpartum with routine competencies
- Scrubs and locker provided
Orientation & Training
- 8-hour compliance orientation with manager
- 8-hour EPIC training
- 2-3 twelve-hour shifts for unit-specific orientation
Unit Policies & Notes
- Strict surgical hand scrub policy: no jewelry on hands/forearms, no artificial nails or enhancements, natural fingernails only (clean, well-manicured, ≤¼ inch), no open lesions or breaks in skin integrity
- Manager emphasizes quality work and provides feedback to travelers
- Open and adaptable attitude toward workflows, policies, and procedures is expected
