Description
Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN - Urology/Nephrology)
Location: Springfield, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3x12 hour nights (18:45 - 07:15)
- Unit: 25 bed Medical Surgical unit with average daily census of 23
- Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
- Floating: Will float within scope to other Medical Surgical units as needed
- Block Scheduling: May try to accommodate but not guaranteed
- Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
- On-call: Not required
- Charge Nurse: Will work charge as needed
Required Experience & Skills
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in medical/surgical nursing (higher value confirmed)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted if they have a solid RN foundation and >2 years Med Surg experience
- Specialty Skills:
- Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Telemetry remote monitoring, use of Rapid Response Teams
- Genitourinary/Renal: Pre/Post Hemodialysis management, renal failure care
- IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care, PICC line management, IV starts
- Medication: Heparin administration
- Respiratory: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC), nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, portable oxygen tank
- Professional Knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care including wound vac
- Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience required
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Active Illinois RN license (must have in hand or be in application process)
- BLS certification (AHA or RQI acceptable)
- ACLS and PALS may be required based on unit/specialty
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender, and state-specific searches within 30 days of start
- Drug screening (9 panel) within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within one year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
- Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
- Immunizations or documented immunity for MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, and seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption
- Competency exam and skills checklist required for clinical candidates
- Photo for badge within one week of contract signing
- References: 2 professional references required for clinical candidates

- Acute Care Hospital, Level I Trauma Center, Magnet designated
- Total staffed beds: 562
- Scrub color: Any solid color
- Charting system: Cerner
- Parking: Permit required, no cost
Notes
- Return to work restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
- Guaranteed hours: Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
- Must comply with Illinois-specific fingerprinting and registry requirements if no IL license at start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg nursing experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
- Telemetry experience
- Nephrology experience
- Urology experience
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams
- Blood product administration experience
- Central line blood draw experience
- Peripheral line care/management experience
- PICC line management experience
- IV start experience

- Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) experience
- CPAP/BiPAP experience

- Experience with Cerner electronic medical record system
This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with strong clinical skills in Urology/Nephrology who are comfortable working nights and floating within medical surgical units. First-time travel nurses with solid Med Surg experience are welcome.
