Description
Nuclear Medicine Technologist - Rad PET/CT
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Perform diagnostic studies and assist with therapeutic administrations using radiopharmaceuticals and imaging equipment.
- Utilize Nuclear Medicine and/or PET/CT equipment to acquire and process patient exams following accrediting bodies, manufacturer guidelines, and department protocols.
- Review cases with radiologists as appropriate.
- Review labs and patient history to ensure correct exam performance.
- Administer IV radiopharmaceuticals via existing IV line or by performing veni-puncture and IV placement.
- Screen patients for pregnancy and perform pregnancy testing if applicable.
- Review radiology orders for completeness and accuracy.
- Verify medical necessity by reviewing patient history and clinical data.
- Obtain additional information from patients, ordering providers, or radiologists as needed.
- Ensure imaging quality standards by critiquing positioning, technical factors, and alignment.
- Verify accuracy, quality, and completeness of patient data.
- Transfer and verify image data in PACS and provide necessary medical history for radiologist interpretation.
- Maintain imaging equipment and workplace environment, including supply inventories and orderliness.
- Recognize and report equipment malfunctions and service needs promptly.
- Ensure patient, visitor, and environmental safety; report safety events immediately.
- Assist in instruction of students and new staff as needed.
- May perform duties of Nuclear Medicine Lead or Imaging Coordinator in their absence.
- Meet productivity levels as established by department benchmarks.
- Assist other areas during downtimes to maintain productivity.
- May perform duties in other modalities within the department if licensed/certified.
- Comply with job descriptions of cross-trained modalities performed within the department.
- Secondary registries for cross-trained modalities are not required unless mandated by compliance, licensure, or accrediting bodies.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Diploma in a related field
OR - Certificate in Radiologic Technology
Certifications & Licensure
- Valid Nuclear Medicine Technologist license in Illinois
- BLS issued by the American Heart Association
- Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTCB)
OR - ARRT (Nuclear Medicine)
Experience & Skills
- Minimum of 1 year of Nuclear Medicine Technologist experience, including experience within the last year
