Job Opportunity: Step Down Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Shift schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm), rotating shifts possible based on operational needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam; passing scores required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year.
- Certifications required:
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background checks including 7-year history, fingerprinting (FBI and BCI), and education verification required and must be current.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
- Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination (no declinations accepted)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually.
- References: 2 professional references from recent employment within 1 year required.
Orientation and Training
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; video content must be watched before testing.
- Medication and ECG competency exams required at orientation with remediation and retake opportunities if needed.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have at least 3 years of prior work history including 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
- Candidates with gaps in employment or returning to the facility may have specific re-orientation or documentation requirements.
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation standards.
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with Stepdown or progressive care experience seeking a travel contract in Ohio.
