Description
Job Opportunity: Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse - Nights
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- Night shift
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each
- No on-call required
- Patient ratio approximately 1:1 to 1:2
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of ICU experience
- Prior travel nursing experience preferred (not required)
Required Certifications
- BLS (AHA only)
- ACLS (AHA only)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit
Required Skills
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with telemetry
- Competency with ventilators
- EPIC documentation system experience required
Licensure
- Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI) required prior to start
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start
- Required to complete monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Annual background check required by agency
- Must complete and sign facility-specific policies including dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and annually thereafter
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire required annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemption allowed with documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but recommended
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and annually thereafter (with remediation process if needed)
References and Documentation
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
- Employment application required including education details
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start
- Candidates with gaps in employment over 30 days may require updated health documents and background checks
- Facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be reviewed and signed prior to start
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with EPIC documentation system
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with night shifts, EPIC documentation, and ventilator management, seeking a travel contract in Ohio.
