Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Neuro Registered Nurse

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical Surgical Neuro Registered Nurse (Med Surg Neuro RN)
• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days)
• Average Daily Census: 32 patients
• Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
• Floating: May float within scope as needed
• Block Schedule: Schedule requests can be discussed with manager
• Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
• On-call: Not required
• First-time Travelers: Not accepted
• Return to Office Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum Experience: 2 years in specialty required
• Required Certifications: BLS and NIHSS
• Required Work Setting Experience: Medical/Surgical
• Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Telemetry (remote monitoring), use of Rapid Response Teams
• Gastrointestinal Care: Colostomy care, feeding tube care and management
• IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting IVs
• Medication Experience: Heparin, insulin, PCA
• Neurological/Psychiatric Care: CVA, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury
• Surgical Care: Experience with surgical drains
• Respiratory Care: Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen face masks, portable oxygen tank, pre/post thoracic surgery, tracheostomy management
• Professional Knowledge: Isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac, continuous bladder irrigation
• Electronic Health Record: Experience with Cerner required
• Preferred Experience: Teaching hospital and Level II trauma center experience

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS certification
• Experience with use of Rapid Response Teams
• Blood product administration experience
• PICC line management experience
• Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac) experience
• CPAP/BiPAP experience
• Non-invasive airway management experience
• Portable oxygen tank experience
• Tracheostomy management experience
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

Licensure

• Must have an active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license to apply

Additional Requirements

• Must work every other weekend
• Must be able to float as needed within scope
• Background checks and verifications required (including but not limited to criminal background, education verification, drug screening, and state-specific searches)
• Physical exam and immunizations/vaccinations required per facility policy
• Fit testing for masks required
• Badge photo required prior to start
• References and skills checklist required
