    Job Opportunity: PICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

    Job Details

    • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PICU)
    • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Day/Night rotating or straight nights
    • Patient Ratio: 1:1 or 1:2
    • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of independent PICU experience in a 20-bed or larger PICU
    • First-time Travelers: Accepted
    • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekends for a 13-week assignment; more weekends required for longer assignments
    • On-call: Not required but available for pick-up
    • Floating: Clinician will float within scope to meet facility needs; includes one orientation shift in CICU
    • Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
    • Locals Accepted: Yes
    • Pending License: Accepted (WA RN Compact License accepted)
    • Guaranteed Hours: Yes

    Required Certifications and Licenses

    • WA RN License (Compact license accepted with additional state requirements)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA Provider only, instructor not accepted
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Provider only, instructor not accepted
    • Additional Certifications:
      • ACLS recommended for Air Lift candidates
      • NRP not required for NICU RNs
      • CHEMO certification required if applicable (through APHON)

    Required Experience and Skills

    • Minimum 2 years PICU experience working independently
    • Experience in a 20-bed or larger PICU
    • Ability to float to CICU after orientation
    • Potential for precepting opportunities

    Scheduling and Work Environment

    • Schedule runs Monday through Sunday
    • Travelers scheduled for 6 weekends during a 13-week assignment
    • No RTO (Return to Office) during first 2 weeks due to orientation
    • Night shift travelers may have night before RTO off
    • Scheduling is managed by facility schedulers; no self-scheduling
    • Scrub color: Any color or T-shirt top (must be age-appropriate and kid-friendly)
    • Charting system: EPIC

    Background and Compliance Requirements

    • 7-year criminal background check required (or within past year if all criteria met)
    • Various background checks including FACIS 3, county civil, state and national criminal, sex offender, and global sanctions
    • Drug screening: 12-panel drug test within 1 year of start, covering marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, opiates, PCP, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, methadone
    • WA State Patrol Search required within 12 months and rerun every 2 years
    • Foreign equivalency education evaluation required if educated outside the U.S.
    • Physical exam within 1 year
    • Fit test for respirator use required within 12 months prior to end of assignment (no on-site fit testing allowed)
    • Respiratory protection training provided via facility platform
    • Various immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Oct-Mar)
    • COVID vaccine strongly recommended but not required
    • Annual respirator medical clearance required for respirator users

    Competency and Testing Requirements

    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (pediatric focus)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for PICU (passing score 80%)
    • Skills checklists: PICU and pediatric skills checklists required
    • Math test administered onsite (proctored) with remediation if needed
    • Various facility-specific modules and training must be completed prior to start (approx. 8 hours)
    • Epic inpatient nurse test-out modules required for RNs

    Additional Notes

    • Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing (blue background, no hats or headwear)
    • Parking available with costs varying by shift and lot; public transportation encouraged
    • Travelers rotate on a 6-week schedule based on start date
    • Only pre-approved shifts off guaranteed in contract
    • Returning candidates with less than 6 months gap may have some background and health documents accepted from previous contract

    Requirements/Qualifications

    • Valid RN license in Washington
    • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
    • Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
    • PICU experience within the last year
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
