Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist
Location: Santa Cruz, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Perform routine and specialized radiation treatments according to physician-developed treatment plans.
- Work independently using sound judgment and clinical skills to deliver safe, precise, and timely procedures.
- Provide competent patient assessment, monitoring, and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and safety.
- May perform specific procedures and orient new staff to the department.
- Shift start times may vary between 5:45 AM and 8:30 PM; flexibility is required.
Required Experience & Skills
- Specialty: Radiology / Cardiology (Radiation Therapy focus)
- Must have experience with Elekta, Mosaiq, and AlignRT systems.
- Years of experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum 1+ year in specialty given the advanced skills required.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- ARRT (Therapy) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or facial hair).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- TB screening and annual renewal (negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days or PPDs)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B series or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete various facility-specific documents and trainings prior to start, including regulatory orientation, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, and vendor training.
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- References: 2 professional references required for clinical positions.
- Competency exams and skills checklists as applicable.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Travel/contract position requiring flexibility in shift start times (between early morning and evening).
- Independent work with patient interaction in a radiation oncology setting.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in California
- Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
- ARRT (Therapy) certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Experience with Elekta radiation therapy systems
- Experience with Mosaiq oncology information system
- Experience with AlignRT surface guided radiation therapy system
