    Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist

    Location: Santa Cruz, California
    Employment Type: Travel/Contract
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Job Summary

    • Perform routine and specialized radiation treatments according to physician-developed treatment plans.
    • Work independently using sound judgment and clinical skills to deliver safe, precise, and timely radiation therapy.
    • Provide competent patient assessment, monitoring, and effective communication with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
    • Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures to ensure patient privacy and safety.
    • May perform specific procedures and orient new staff to the department.
    • Shift start times may vary between 5:45 AM and 8:30 PM; flexibility is required.

    Required Experience & Skills

    • Valid Radiation Therapist license in California
    • Radiation Therapist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
    • ARRT (Therapeutic) certification
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
    • Experience with Elekta, Mosaiq, and AlignRT systems

    Required Certifications & Licenses

    • ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) - Therapeutic (ARRT T) certification required.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
    • Valid California State Radiation Therapist License.

    Background & Compliance Requirements

    • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start.
    • Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS Level 3 screenings.
    • Education verification required (highest level achieved).
    • Sex offender search required within 90 days of start.
    • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
    • Physical exam required within 1 year of start.
    • Fit mask test required within 1 year of start and must be renewed annually.
    • Immunizations and health screenings required:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
      • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
      • Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
      • Varicella immunity or vaccination
      • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
    • Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and annually thereafter.

    Additional Requirements

    • Must complete various facility-specific documents and trainings prior to start, including:
      • Job description review and acknowledgment
      • Standards of business conduct
      • Code of conduct and vendor training (updated for 2024 and 2025)
      • TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start (renewed annually)
      • Religious exemption forms if applicable (for facial hair/PAPR or vaccine exemptions)
    • Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
    • Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical positions.

    Work Environment & Schedule

    • Shift start times vary between early morning and evening; flexibility is essential.
    • Independent work with patient interaction in a radiation oncology setting.
