Position Overview

Seeking an Interim Leader for Surgical Services to serve as Director-level leadership during a transition period. This role reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) and involves managing surgical services including multiple operating room suites and coordinating with physician and anesthesia groups.

Unit Profile

• Department: Surgical Services (Operating Room)
• Number of OR Suites: 8 main OR suites, 5 outpatient suites
• Types of Cases: Endoscopy, Urology, Injections (excluding Neuro and Cardiothoracic cases)
• Call Schedule: 24-hour call team with 2 teams
• Weekend Surgery: Emergency cases only
• Equipment: Da Vinci robotic system (Mako system coming soon)
• Electronic Health Record (EHR): Meditech
• Staffing: Approximately 90 full-time equivalents (FTE)
• Support Staff: OR Coordinator, Manager over Resource Management Center (RMC), Endoscopy Manager
• Scheduling: Block scheduling in place, working to improve provider adherence
• Employee Engagement: Scores improving, with focus on on-time starts and block utilization
• Patient Satisfaction: Positive scores reported

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum of 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience in leadership roles

Key Responsibilities

• Provide interim leadership and management of surgical services
• Oversee scheduling, block utilization, and coordination with surgical teams
• Support staff engagement and operational improvements
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards
• Collaborate with physician and anesthesia groups to maintain efficient surgical operations

Additional Notes

• This is an interim leadership role filling in for the current Director who is transitioning to PRN status
• The position requires strong leadership skills and experience managing a large OR department with diverse surgical specialties
• Prior travel experience is not specified as a requirement for this role
