Description
Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (Step Down)
Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 13 weeks)
Shift: 3x12 hour nights (7pm - 7am), weekdays and every other weekend
Start Date: ASAP
Possible Extension: Yes
Job Description
- Work in a lower acuity step down unit (typically 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio; 1:5 in emergencies)
- No drips involved
- Must be able to read cardiac strips
- EMR system: Cerner
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Stepdown nursing experience, with PCU experience within the last year
- Med-Surg / Telemetry nursing experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications: BLS and ACLS issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Additional Requirements & Expectations
- Facility attendance policy: Only 2-3 call offs allowed per contract; call off days must be made up
- Scrubs: Burgundy and/or white (not provided)
- Must provide:
- Candidate profile/work history
- Specialty-specific skills checklist (updated annually)
- Minimum 2 clinical references within past 2 years
- RN license verification (recent NURSYs pull)
- All required certifications (BCLS, ACLS, etc.) prior to start
Required Compliance & Documentation
- Background checks including 7-year criminal check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government issued photo ID
- Education verification
- Physical exam (initial and updated annually)
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, preferred)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella titers or vaccinations
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series or declination
- Varicella titer or vaccination
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Drug testing: 10 panel within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Competency exams and color blindness testing as applicable
- Facility-specific training modules including Cerner EMR training (must be completed prior to orientation)
- ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys completed prior to start
- Stroke education CEUs (8 hours annually) and NIH Stroke Certification required for applicable units
Summary
This is a travel/contract RN position for a step down unit requiring a minimum of 2 years step down experience and 1 year Med-Surg/Telemetry experience. The role involves night shifts with a focus on telemetry monitoring and IV skills. Prior travel experience is not required. Candidates must be fully certified and compliant with all health, background, and facility-specific requirements before starting. Attendance expectations are strict with limited call offs allowed.
