Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical

Location: Hickory, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

Work on a medical surgical unit with an 18-bed capacity
Patient population includes adult and geriatric medical surgical patients
Patient ratio approximately 1:6
Float as needed to surgical, neuro, and intermediate units (may take med surg level patients)
No call requirements
Weekend shifts every other weekend
Weekly guaranteed hours: 36
Busy floor requiring strong patient advocacy and teamwork
Common diagnoses include COPD exacerbation, GI bleed, diabetic complications, wound care, pancreatitis, sickle cell crisis, end of life care/hospice, falls, weakness, sepsis, and infection

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
Minimum 2 years of medical surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

Preferred Qualifications

Charge nurse experience

Equipment and Systems

Baxter IV pumps
Sequential Compression Devices (SCD) machines
Kangaroo feeding pumps
Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) pumps
Cerner EHR system

Additional Information

Orientation offered twice monthly
Unit values team players who can keep up with a busy environment and advocate strongly for patients
Dress code: any scrub color acceptable
No call requirements

Note: Candidates must be located 60 miles or more from the facility to qualify for travel status.
