Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Neuro
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a Stepdown Neuro unit on the night shift (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM).
- Must have at least 18 months of permanent experience in the specialty prior to travel assignments.
- Must have at least 18 months of recent Neuro Stepdown experience; travel experience in this area is acceptable.
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience is preferred but not required.
- Traveler must work at least every other holiday.
- ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam (SafeMedicate) must be passed during orientation.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year of experience within the last year.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 18 months of permanent experience in Neuro Stepdown nursing.
- Travel experience in Neuro Stepdown is acceptable.
- PCU/Progressive Care experience preferred but not mandatory.
Orientation & Testing
- Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition and SafeMedicate medication administration exams.
- Passing scores required: 90% for medication exam, 80% for ECG interpretation.
- Candidates unsuccessful on first attempt will receive remediation and retake opportunities.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check including FCRA compliant 7-year search, education verification, and fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing and updated annually.
- Fingerprinting code: 4723.09 (Nursing).
- Candidates may start with fingerprint results pending but must complete prior to start.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Education verification required for all candidates.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including capability assessment.
- Fit mask test (N95) required within 12 months and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings required: Tdap, TB test or chest X-ray, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, flu vaccination (or approved exemptions), drug screening, and eye exam.
- Two professional references required from recent employment within one year.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required onboarding modules prior to start.
- Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
- Candidates with a break in employment longer than 6 months may need to repeat onboarding modules.
- Candidates must maintain legal name consistency across all documentation.
- Travelers must be prepared to work at least every other holiday.
- SafeMedicate and ECG competency exams are required for all bedside RNs except OR RNs.
- Physical exam and eye exam do not need to be updated annually if currently on assignment without a break.
This position is ideal for experienced Neuro Stepdown RNs who meet licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable working night shifts in a progressive care environment.
