Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology / Medical-Surgical Telemetry
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
This role involves working in a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) unit with oncology and mixed acuity medical-surgical telemetry patients. The unit includes PCU and MS units with a focus on hematology/oncology diagnoses.
Patient Diagnoses Include:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (including CLL and Myeloid Leukemia)
- Hodgkin's Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Special Procedures/Unit Details:
- Autologous Transplants (patient’s own stem cells)
- Syngeneic Transplants (stem cells from identical twin)
- Allogeneic Transplants (stem cells from sibling, parent, or unrelated donor)
- CAR-T Therapy
Shift Details:
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks; changes based on staffing needs
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1 year experience in Medical-Surgical and Oncology nursing
- Hematology/Oncology experience strongly preferred
- Chemotherapy certification not required
- Skills in telemetry monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Experience with rapid response teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central and peripheral line care and blood draws
- PICC line management
- Nasal cannula administration
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
- Minimum of 1 year oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience using Rapid Response Teams
- PICC line management skills
Additional Requirements
- Background checks and monitoring per facility policy (including EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monthly monitoring)
- Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting with specific code requirements; must be completed within 1 year of start
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment annually
Notes
- Candidates must be prepared for a fast and time-sensitive fingerprinting process specific to Ohio regulations.
- This position requires strong clinical skills in oncology and medical-surgical telemetry nursing with a focus on complex hematology patients.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this role.
