Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 32 beds
- Mixed acuity patients including medical diagnoses and pre/post-surgical care
- Schedule: Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM, 36 hours/week, every other weekend
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Skills
- Telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation/management
- Rapid response/code team participation
- IV therapy and blood product administration
- Central line and PICC care
- Heparin protocols
- Respiratory support
- Wound care
- Pre/post-surgical patient care
Job Expectations
- Float and call responsibilities required
- Teaching hospital experience is welcomed
- One pre-approved time-off request allowed per contract
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (including FBI and BCI fingerprinting) required within 90 days of start
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
- Various health documents required including:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers (MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season
- Annual competency exams including medication/pharmacology and dysrhythmia/EKG competency (with remediation process if needed)
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
Additional Notes
- Scrub color and details provided at orientation
- Parking permits available for purchase (details not included here)
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
