Job Opportunity: Ultrasound Tech
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Perform routine and specialized ultrasound examinations, adapting procedures to obtain specific diagnostic and/or therapeutic results.
- Prepare patients for examinations and use independent judgment under the direction of a radiologist.
- Ensure accurate and complete ultrasound exams for patients of all ages following medical imaging guidelines and standards.
- Demonstrate competency in performing ultrasound procedures and capturing required views showing appropriate anatomy and pathology.
- Knowledgeable in handling catheters, biopsy instruments, sterile trays, and assist radiologists with biopsies.
- Obtain accurate patient histories and explain procedures to patients and families.
- Enhance image quality using appropriate transducers and machine settings.
- Evaluate finished images to ensure diagnostic quality before submission to radiologists.
- Maintain quality care throughout procedures and assess abdominal arterial and venous systems using color imaging.
- Maintain working knowledge of ultrasound equipment operation, including troubleshooting hardware and software issues.
- Maintain clean work areas, stock supplies, and document equipment problems.
- Order labs and pathology tests under radiologist direction.
- Support medical imaging department functions, including training fellow technologists and students.
- Process images and paperwork promptly to ensure timely reporting.
- Coordinate patient flow for efficient care and accurately enter patient information into hospital information systems.
- Maintain quality assurance, control, and improvement programs.
- Foster a professional and respectful learning environment among staff.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist within the last year.
- Associate's Degree in Ultrasound/Sonography or Certificate of completion of an Ultrasound/Sonography program.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
- ARDMS (American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography) certification.
