Registered Nurse - Operating Room

Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina

Job Summary

Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards in a hospital setting. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process.

Essential Duties

• Participate in identifying and meeting own learning needs and attend education programs.
• Use patient education materials relevant to the patient population with assistance.
• Assess patient/family readiness to learn and developmental level.
• Identify expected patient outcomes and participate in care plan evaluation and revision.
• Communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
• Demonstrate competence in care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects.
• Perform bedside point of care testing as required.
• Organize and prioritize care according to patient/family needs.
• Consult appropriate resources timely for complex care issues or discharge planning.
• Develop professional growth goals with assistance and participate in unit goals and performance improvement.
• Promote intra/interdepartmental collaboration and cost-effective care.
• Provide feedback to co-workers and promote a safe, clean, and secure environment.
• Recognize and synthesize complex assessment data to determine care priorities.
• Assess and anticipate discharge needs and develop relationships with families to support advocacy.
• Collaborate with patient/family in care planning, addressing cultural and ethnic issues.
• Prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
• Engage in research by reading relevant journals and contributing ideas for practice improvement.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience, including 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year.
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients, including 1 year of Level 1 trauma experience.
• Nursing Diploma from an accredited school of Nursing.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

Preferred Qualifications

• BSN or MSN from an accredited school of Nursing.
