Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in a high acuity Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a focus on oncology and medical-surgical patients.
- Units include Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), Acute Leukemia, Hematology, Medical Oncology, PCU Oncology, Gynecological Oncology, Urology, Colorectal, Surgical Oncology, and Corrections Healthcare.
- Floating between MedSurg and PCU Oncology units.
- Emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention.
- Staffing ratios: PCU typically 1:3, may be 1:4 with mixed acuity; MedSurg Telemetry ideally 1:4, can be 1:5.
- Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; schedule reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to change based on staffing needs.
- Orientation: First week Monday-Friday dayshift; followed by 5 bedside orientation shifts between weeks 2 and 3 before independent practice.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Current certifications prior to start:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).
Additional Information
- Orientation Safety Manual acknowledgment required annually.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Fingerprinting must be completed using Ohio-specific codes; results must be current within 1 year of start.
- Candidates may be required to self-schedule preferred shifts; no guaranteed fixed scheduling.
- Floating assignments may include various oncology and medical-surgical units.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with high acuity PCU nursing and flexible with rotating shifts in a specialized oncology-focused environment.
