Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Stepdown/PCU Unit
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Mixed-acuity Stepdown/Progressive Care Unit (PCU) caring for adult and geriatric patients with general chronic medical conditions.
- Comfortable working in a progressive care environment.
- Floating within the organization as needed.
- In-house provider support available 24/7.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of recent Registered Nurse (RN) experience.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification.

Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI) with specific codes required.
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year.
- TB questionnaire.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed).
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.
Certifications and Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider or instructor accepted.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed).
- Unit-specific competency exam required.
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
- State license verification and NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start.
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership role.
- Employment application and skills checklist required.
- Background check and fingerprinting results must be clear prior to start; pending background attestation accepted under specific conditions.
- Compliance with dress code and hand hygiene policies.
- Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually.
Notes
- Parking options available for agency staff (costs and details not included here).
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within one year of start date.
- New fingerprinting required if there is a break in service of 90+ days or if previous results are older than one year.
- Candidates can renew BLS and ACLS certifications at the facility if needed.
