Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

Join a Critical Care Float Pool working weekend night shifts (3 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, approximately 36 hours/week). Weekend nights are guaranteed full shifts with one additional shift during the week.

Nurses will float across various ICUs based on staffing needs and patient acuity, including:

  • Neuro ICU
  • Surgical ICUs
  • Medical ICUs (MICU x2)
  • Cardiology/Diagnostics
  • CVICU
  • SICU / MICU / NCCU

Float Policy: Nurses must float within units of equivalent or lower acuity.


Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • Proficiency with Epic electronic health record system
  • Experience with ventilator management

Schedule

  • Weekend night shifts (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
  • 3 shifts per weekend, 12 hours each
  • One additional shift during the week

Required Background and Compliance Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check (including FBI and BCI fingerprinting) within 90 days of start
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tdap vaccine (adult dose)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required with specific code, must be completed within 1 year of start
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if failed)

References and Documentation

  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

Additional Notes

  • Nurses must adhere to dress code and hand hygiene policies
  • Annual acknowledgment of ethics, compliance, and safety manuals required
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually

This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic ICU float pool environment with exposure to multiple critical care specialties and flexible weekend night scheduling.
