Job Opportunity: Radiologic Technologist 2 - Heart & Vascular Procedures

Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical Allied Health
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

The Radiologic Technologist provides patient care specifically in invasive cardiology and invasive radiology studies within a heart and vascular setting. The technologist assists physicians during procedures and supports patient care throughout.


Essential Functions

  • Administer contrast material via existing IV line or by venipuncture; monitor and respond to allergic reactions.
  • Work under direct supervision of a physicist or dosimetrist.
  • Assist with inventory and supplies management.
  • Verify patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position.
  • Compile relevant clinical information (labs, pathology, etc.).
  • Assist in training new staff as needed.
  • Document procedures accurately and completely.
  • Explain procedures to patients and provide comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Inform procedural nurse of medication doses, radiation, and counts during procedures.
  • Perform on-call duties and variable shifts as assigned.
  • Perform all essential Radiologic Technologist functions.

Department-Specific Duties

  • Administer and withhold contrast and treatments as appropriate.
  • Assess patients for allergies.
  • Perform peripheral vascular procedures, venous central line management, tube changes, embolization (venous and arterial), and venous thrombectomy.
  • Experience with interventional neurology preferred.
  • Dialysis-related procedures including AV fistulas and catheter management.
  • Tube access and changes (G-tube, cholecystostomy, nephrostomy, biliary, abscess, suprapubic catheter).
  • Neuro procedures (cerebral arterial/venous, kyphoplasty) are ideal.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • An Associate's Degree in a related field or a Certificate in Radiologic Technology is required.

Certifications & Licensure

  • Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in Illinois (IEMA Radiography License Illinois).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ARRT Radiography (R) certification.

Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist, including experience within the last year.
  • At least 2+ years of experience in Heart and Vascular Invasive (HVI) procedural/interventional radiology.
  • Experience with peripheral vascular procedures.
  • Experience managing venous central lines.
  • Experience performing tube changes.
  • Experience with neuro procedures.
  • Experience with embolization procedures (arterial and venous).
  • Experience with venous thrombectomy.
  • General Radiologic Technologist experience.

Additional Information

  • Must be able to work late shifts and on-call as needed.
  • Prior travel experience is not specified as required.
  • Required specialty experience: Radiologic Technology (minimum 2 years assumed based on typical requirements for this level).
