Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
  • Shift schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7pm-7:30am / 7am-7:30pm), rotating shifts possible based on operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam; passing scores required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Stepdown experience, with Stepdown experience within the last year.
  • Current certifications required:
    • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
    • NIHSS
    • CST
    • CVOR
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications must be current and valid at start.
  • Additional certifications preferred but not required:
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Competency exams for medication administration and ECG interpretation required at orientation.

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • TB screening (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT within 12 months) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination.
    • Varicella vaccination or titer.
    • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required annually (no declinations accepted).
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Background & Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID required.
  • Background check including 7-year FCRA compliant search, education verification, fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) within 12 months, updated annually.
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • Employment application with at least 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area.
  • Two professional references from within 1 year of start required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).

Additional Information

  • Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory.
  • Candidates must complete medication and ECG competency exams during orientation with minimum passing scores.
  • Candidates with gaps longer than 6 months since last assignment at this or similar facility may need to retake orientation modules and exams.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts and meet holiday work requirements.

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with solid acute care backgrounds seeking a travel contract in Ohio.
