Job Opportunity: CVOR Registered Nurse

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse
  • Experience Required: Minimum 3 years in specialty
  • First-time travelers will be considered, but prior travel experience is highly preferred
  • Call Requirements: 32 total hours per month
  • Floating Policy: May float to Main OR if no CVOR cases during the shift
  • Unit Info: CVOR located at the Main Hospital
  • Patient Mix: Adult open heart surgery including CABG, valve surgeries (aortic, mitral, pulmonic)
  • Skillset: Scrub role required for open CVOR cases; circulate and TAVR experience highly preferred
  • Additional Knowledge: Experience with Impella and HeartMate devices, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR (also performed in main OR)
  • Scrubs Provided
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Schedule Accommodation: Requests for time off or block scheduling must be submitted with application and approved before offer
  • Locals Accepted

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Scrub experience and ability for open CVOR cases
  • Knowledge and experience with Impella devices
  • Knowledge and experience with HeartMate devices
  • Experience and knowledge with ECMO
  • Experience and knowledge with laser lead extractions
  • Experience and knowledge with TAVR procedures

Certifications & Competencies (as applicable)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or equivalent, current
  • CNOR preferred
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit and role specifics (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) but not mandatory for CVOR RN
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams and pass/fail testing as required by employer policies
  • IV Therapy/Infusion competency (not required for OR specialties)
  • Background checks and drug screening within 30 days of start
  • Respiratory medical clearance and fit testing prior to start (annual updates required)
  • Annual education and competency sign-offs as required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Two professional references within last 2 years (one managerial)
  • Background check including aliases, criminal, MVR/DMV, and federal/state exclusions within 30 days of start
  • Drug screen (10-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Immunization and titers documentation including:
    • TB testing (IGRA or 2-step PPD)
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination compliance
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity or vaccination
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption annually
  • Latex allergy screening questionnaire if applicable
  • Color vision testing if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Completion of required competency exams within 72 hours of signing contract
  • Completion of annual education and safety training modules

Additional Notes

  • Floating policy must be acknowledged and completed for every new assignment
  • Schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer
  • Scrubs are provided on site
  • EPIC electronic health record system used for charting
  • Prior travel experience is highly preferred but not strictly required
  • Locals are accepted for this position
