    Job Description

    The Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) sonographer performs diagnostic imaging scans on patients from the 1st to 3rd trimester of high-risk pregnancies. The role involves performing routine and specialized sonography procedures to produce quality images for diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of injury or disease.

    Types of scans include:

    • Nuchal Translucency (NT)
    • 1st trimester scans
    • Biophysical profile (BPP)
    • Detailed (Level II) scans
    • Multiple gestations (twins, triplets)
    • Umbilical artery Doppler
    • Middle cerebral artery Doppler
    • Transvaginal scans

    Shift:

    • 5 days per week, 8 hours per day
    • Typical hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM (variable days)

    Required Qualifications

    • Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Ultrasound Technologist, including 3 years specifically as an OB ultrasound sonographer
    • Ultrasound Technologist experience within the last year
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

    Certifications & Licenses

    • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
    • Additional certifications may be required depending on position specifics (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM) – verify as applicable
    • State professional license verification required within 30 days of start
    • Official transcripts/diplomas or education verification may be required
    • Technical certification verification required within 30 days of start

    Background & Compliance Requirements

    • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start
    • Various federal and state screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, FACIS Level 3, Sex Offender Search, OFAC Sanctions List, Medi-Cal Suspended and Ineligible Provider List)
    • Education verification and transcript/diploma validation
    • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start
    • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions)
    • Immunizations and titers required:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
      • Hepatitis B series or declination
      • Varicella
      • Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
    • TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days of start or 2-step PPD testing with annual renewal
    • Respiratory safety clearance required annually (not required for some roles)

    Additional Requirements

    • Full 7 years of work history documented in application with no gaps over 30 days
    • Employment verification for up to 7 years required
    • Unit-specific skills checklist may be required and must be renewed annually
    • Various facility-specific documents and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start
    • References: 2 professional references required for clinical/allied/per diem acute care candidates
