Registered Nurse (RN) – Central Registry Float
Location: Fort Wayne, Indiana
Employment Type: Traveler - Backfill
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on general medical and surgical units with a diverse patient population.
- Patient diagnoses include chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end stage renal disease), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological issues (stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
- Care for patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (lap chole, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
- Perform assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilize electronic health records (Epic).
- Manage equipment including IV pumps, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, heparin and insulin drips, and telemetry monitoring.
- Use of pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, Hospira IV pumps, and SCDs for VTE prevention.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana.
- Med Surg experience of at least 1 year within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
Work Schedule
- 12-hour shifts.
- Approximately 3 weekend shifts every 4 weeks.
- Patient ratios typically 1:5-6.
- Floating to other medical units as needed.
Orientation & Training
- Jump Start orientation program including:
- 1 day general hospital orientation.
- Approximately 5 days nursing orientation.
- Epic electronic health record training.
Additional Information
- Dress code: Caribbean Blue scrubs.
- No prior travel experience explicitly required.
