Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room

Location: Fort Madison, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)

Job Summary

• Provide direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department.
• Responsible for rapid, safe, and accurate triage of every patient entering the emergency care system.
• Coordinate care with other healthcare professionals as needed.
• Support unit preparation for Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic EMR experience required.
• Must self-study telemetry strips and pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to continue working in the Emergency Department.
• May be placed on call occasionally during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called in.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Iowa
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of experience as an RN in the Emergency Department, with at least some experience within the last year
• Certifications:

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
• Experience with Cerner and Epic EMR systems

Health and Compliance Requirements

• COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted)
• Influenza vaccine (or facility declination accepted; due annually by December 1)
• MMR (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
• Hepatitis B (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
• Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted)
• Tdap (valid for 10 years; declination accepted)
• TB Test (negative test within past year or appropriate documentation if history of positive test)
• Fit Test for approved respirators (completed prior to start)
• Health Statement from a physician within the last 12 months

Background and Verification

• Professional license verification (primary source within 30 days of start)
• Background check including SS trace and county search for last 7 years (within 30 days of start)
• Adult and Child Abuse registry check (state requirement)
• Education verification through third party
• Drug screen (9 panel, within 30 days of start)
• Professional references: 2 required, including 1 supervisor reference
• Resume or professional profile required

Additional Notes

• Traveler is responsible for self-study and passing the dysrhythmia test to work in the Emergency Department.
• While not part of a regular call rotation, occasional on-call duties may be required.
• Must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called in.
