Job Opportunity: OR Tech / Surgical Tech

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work a day/evening rotating schedule combining 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts to total 40 hours per week.
• Call and weekend shifts as needed (not guaranteed 4 10-hour shifts).
• Provide high-quality nursing care in surgical services.
• Assist with circulating and scrubbing during surgeries.
• Maintain accurate patient records using EPIC.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
• Scrub a variety of surgical services including:

  • Surgical Oncology
  • Thoracic
  • Colorectal
  • Urology
  • GYN Oncology
  • Head & Neck / ENT
  • Neurosurgery
  • Orthopedics
  • Plastics / Reconstructive
  • Robotics

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Surgical Technician.
• Surgical Technician experience within the last year.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
• Experience with circulating during surgeries.
• Proficiency in EPIC electronic medical records system.

Certifications & Compliance Requirements

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA provider or instructor level.
• Background checks including a 7-year criminal background check and fingerprinting (BCI & FBI) required prior to start.
• Education accreditation verification for nursing degrees.
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B titer or vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
• Annual acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies.
• Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually.
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology and unit-specific competency exams.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually.

Additional Requirements

• Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
• Employment application and skills checklist required.
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
• Patient ratios are not applicable.
• Call and weekend shifts are on an as-needed basis.
• Candidates should be prepared to work across multiple surgical specialties and assist in complex procedures including robotics and microsurgery.
