Job Opportunity: Ortho RN Nights

Location: Evansville, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)


Unit Overview

  • 24-bed unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio up to 1:6
  • Patient population: postoperative adult patients recovering from Orthopedic, Total Joint Replacement, Podiatry, and Spine surgeries
  • Length of stay varies based on surgery and discharge needs

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum 2 years of Orthopedics experience, including experience within the last year
  • Experience in Orthopedic Surgery
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Key Onboarding & Compliance Requirements

  • Professional credentials and documentation including:
    • Resume/Profile
    • Two professional references
    • Criminal background check (including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender) within 30 days of assignment start
    • Employment verification for past seven years
    • Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start
  • Required exams and competencies prior to start and updated every 3 years:
    • Pharmacology exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts)
    • Medical Surgical exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts)
    • EKG exam (minimum 80% score, max 2 attempts)
    • Core competencies including HIPAA, Joint Commission, NPSG, OSHA topics (minimum 80% or national benchmark score)
  • Health and immunization requirements:
    • MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted)
    • Varicella (two vaccines, serological evidence, or history verified by healthcare provider; no declinations accepted)
    • Tdap (valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination
    • Influenza vaccine (optional; if declined, mask required during flu season)
    • TB screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA with annual TB questionnaire; chest x-ray if positive
    • Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred prior to start, can be done onsite)
    • Health statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually
  • Drug screening: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter
  • Driver’s license or state ID (valid, matching address requirements)

Additional Notes

  • Onboarding includes completion of specific education attestations and contract worker onboarding processes
  • Badge photo required (forward-facing headshot with white or blue background, no alterations)
  • Unit-specific checklist is optional but may be required by unit leadership within the first week
  • Skills checklist for specialty to be completed within one year of start and updated annually
