Job Opportunity: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
Location: Oakland, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to perform respiratory therapy modalities in a progressive healthcare environment. The role involves managing complex life support systems and making critical patient care decisions across a wide range of patient populations from neonatal to geriatric.
Work Schedule
- Nights, 3 shifts per week (12-hour shifts, 18:45 - 07:15)
- Every other weekend
- No call
- No floating
Responsibilities
- Perform respiratory care procedures including ventilator management, oxygen administration, aerosolized medication delivery, hyperinflation therapy, and diagnostic procedures such as bronchoscopy and blood gas analysis.
- Manage airway and cardiac support during emergency codes.
- Provide patient instruction on breathing exercises and home care routines.
- Complete accurate documentation of all therapy performed.
- Maintain knowledge of respiratory care equipment and pharmacology.
- Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare team members.
- Respond to Code Blue calls as directed.
- Attend in-service education, conferences, and staff meetings.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist license in California
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist, including experience within the last year
- Experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- High School Diploma
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start.
- Various federal and state screenings including EPLS, HHS/OIG, FACIS Level 3, and others as applicable.
- Education verification and professional license verification required.
- Drug screening (9-panel, excluding marijuana due to California law) within 6 months of start.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella immunity or vaccination documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or approved declination with mask requirement
- Respiratory safety clearance completed prior to start and renewed annually.
Additional Requirements
- Must complete facility-specific documents and orientation prior to start.
- Must provide full 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days.
- Professional references required (2 for clinical/allied/per diem acute care; 1 for per diem non-acute care).
- Competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
