Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology / Medical-Surgical / Telemetry
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Description
Provide nursing care in an oncology setting with mixed acuity on a Medical-Surgical/Telemetry unit. The patient population includes those undergoing bone marrow transplants and treatment for various hematologic malignancies and disorders.
Patient Diagnoses Include:
- Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia (including CLL and Myelogenous Leukemia)
- Hodgkin's and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
Special Procedures/Unit Details:
- Autologous, Syngeneic, and Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplants
- CAR-T Therapy
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year experience in Medical-Surgical and Oncology nursing (higher experience requirement applies if discrepancies)
- Hematology-Oncology experience strongly preferred
- Chemotherapy certification not required
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred Certifications
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN)
Skills and Competencies
- Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing skills
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central and peripheral line care and blood draws
- PICC line management
- Nasal cannula oxygen administration
Work Schedule
- 12-hour day/night rotating shifts
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but subject to staffing needs
Required Licenses
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Ohio
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including FBI and state fingerprinting (BCI/FBI) required prior to start
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start
- Various health immunizations and documentation required (see Health Documents below)
- Professional references: 2 required, including at least 1 from a manager or formal leader
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and no contagious disease
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose) required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series (declination accepted)
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions require documentation)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
Competency Exams and Training
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete background checks, fingerprinting, and education verification promptly after contract signing
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific state codes and within 1 year of start date
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
- Candidates must review and sign dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies annually
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
This position is ideal for experienced oncology RNs with strong medical-surgical and telemetry skills who are comfortable working in a specialized hematology/oncology transplant unit with a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.
