Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Washington, District of Columbia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Start date must be 4/13 or 4/20
  • Must have 2-3 years of Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and Pre-Testing experience
  • Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, with varying days off; no weekends or holidays
  • Night shifts: 3 shifts of 12 hours (3x12 nights)
  • No on-call required
  • No background/license issues accepted; no exemptions

Required Licensure

  • Active District of Columbia nursing license required prior to start
  • Applicants without a DC nursing license will not be considered

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, cannot expire within 30 days of start
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, cannot expire within 30 days of start
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only, cannot expire within 30 days of start
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA/AAP only, cannot expire within 30 days of start
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable to unit/specialty)
  • State nursing license primary source verification
  • NURSYS verification
  • Pass/Fail Medication Calculation Exam at orientation (must score 84% or higher, 2 attempts allowed)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2-3 years of Pediatric PACU and Pre-Testing experience

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules within the first week of assignment
  • Missed shifts due to call-outs must be made up at the end of the contract
  • Physical exam within 30 days of start, including latex allergy information
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive quantitative titer with lab values)
    • Hepatitis B series and quantitative titer
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive quantitative titer with lab values)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start (must include marijuana)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
  • COVID vaccine or declination required for tracking purposes
  • Completion of facility-specific safety and competency exams, including medication and pharmacology competency
  • Photo for badge must be submitted immediately after signing contract

Background and Documentation

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • Education verification required (transcript/diploma accepted if pending)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Two professional references dated within the past two years (preferably supervisors/managers)

Work Environment

  • Pediatric Post Anesthesia Care Unit
  • No weekends or holidays required
  • No on-call duties

Note: Clearance to start must be obtained prior to reporting for the first day.
