Job Opportunity: RN Cath Lab
Location: Austin, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily in a high-acuity cardiac catheterization lab.
- Responsibilities include managing heart failure patients, performing left heart catheterizations (LHC), right heart catheterizations (RHC), RHC with endomyocardial biopsy (EMBX), transcatheter aortic valve replacements (TAVRs), and structural heart procedures.
- Some involvement with peripheral procedures and pulmonary embolisms (PEs).
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
- Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in a Cardiac Cath Lab.
- Cardiac Cath Lab experience must be within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Required Onboarding and Compliance
- Completion of specialty competency exams with a minimum passing score of 80%, including:
- Specialty exam in Cath Lab nursing.
- EKG exam (updated version as of December 2023).
- Core competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, OSHA, and National Patient Safety Goals.
- Health and immunization requirements:
- MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted).
- Varicella immunity (two vaccines or serological evidence; no declinations accepted).
- Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Hepatitis B vaccination series or signed declination.
- Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (exemptions accepted with mask requirement).
- Tuberculosis screening (2-step PPD or IGRA, chest X-ray if positive, annual TB questionnaire).
- Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred before start, can be done onsite).
- Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment start, updated annually.
- Drug screening: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
- Background checks including criminal history, employment verification, and exclusion lists.
- Professional references: At least two required.
- Driver’s license or state ID valid and current.
Additional Notes
- Onboarding includes completion of various education attestations and training modules specific to the specialty and employer requirements.
- Some optional items include unit-specific checklists and badge photo submission.
- Contract worker onboarding is conducted onsite.
- Documentation and verification must be maintained and updated regularly, especially for licenses, certifications, and health screenings.
