Job Description
- Provide nursing care on general medical and surgical units with a diverse patient population.
- Patient diagnoses include chronic illnesses (COPD, Diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease), GI issues (pancreatitis, bleeding, gastroparesis, inflammatory bowel diseases), infections (pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, UTI, C. diff), neurological conditions (stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries), and mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, substance abuse).
- Care for patients undergoing procedures such as colonoscopies, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, and minor surgeries (laparoscopic cholecystectomy, incision and drainage, biopsies, amputation).
- Perform assessments, care planning, inter-professional communication, and utilize electronic health records (Epic).
- Manage IV therapy, including heparin and insulin drips, wound vacs, feeding pumps and tubes, chest tubes, and use equipment such as IV pumps, pyxis machines, Accucheck blood glucose monitors, SCDs for VTE prevention, heating/cooling pads, and telemetry monitoring.
- Float to other medical units as needed, focusing on areas of greatest need.
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts (7am to 7pm)
- 36 hours per week
- 3 weekend shifts required every 4 weeks
Patient Ratios
- Approximately 1:5-6
Orientation and Training
- Jump Start orientation program including:
- 1 day general hospital orientation
- Approximately 5 days nursing orientation
- Epic electronic health record training
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 1 year of medical-surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
Dress Code
- Caribbean Blue scrubs
