Job Details

• Specialty: Telemetry Registered Nurse (Tele RN)
• Location: Freeport, Illinois
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights (1900-0730)
• Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
• Unit: Telemetry (18 beds)
• Patient Ratios: 4-5 patients during days, 5-6 patients during nights
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation
• Floating: Required to float to ICU, Medical-Surgical, and Emergency Room within scope of practice; may care for ER boarders
• Call/Standby: No call or standby requirement for agency staff

Patient Population & Care

• Common diagnoses include stroke, congestive heart failure (CHF), acute coronary syndrome (ACS), coronary artery disease (CAD), post heart catheterization patients, and arrhythmias
• Experience with cath lab post-recovery (femoral/radial) and stroke care is highly preferred
• Drip experience required; common titratable drips include Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dopamine, and Heparin (heparin is titratable)
• Telemetry monitoring: RNs sign off on central telemetry strips; monitor techs handle central telemetry

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, including telemetry experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS certification
• BLS certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Drip experience
• Cardiac Cath Lab experience

Orientation & Other Information

• Department-specific orientation: 2 shifts of 12 hours each
• Charge nurse has patient assignment; nurse aides (CNAs) are available with ratios based on patient acuity (typically 2 CNAs)
• Respiratory therapy equipment used includes BiPAP and High Flow oxygen devices
• Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed)
