Description
Occupational Therapist (Acute Care Hospital) - Travel/Contract
Location: Burlingame, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day Shift, Sunday - Thursday, 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM (5x8 hour shifts)
Hours per Week: 40 hours
Job Description
- Provide occupational therapy services in an acute care setting.
- Assess, plan, organize, and participate in rehabilitative programs.
- Help patients build or restore vocational, homemaking, daily living skills, and general independence.
- Work with persons with disabilities or developmental delays.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in California.
- Minimum 2 years of occupational therapy experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in an acute care setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including Social Security trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and motor vehicle report if applicable.
- FACIS Level 3 screening required within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required and updated annually.
- Education verification required (not needed if highest education is high school).
- Sex offender search must be run within 90 days of start.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start, with clearance for work.
- TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
- Negative TB test (QGold, TSPOT, or PPD) within 90 days of start; renewed annually.
- Immunizations required or proof of immunity for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30).
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of start and renewed annually (specific mask types accepted).
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start and renewed annually.
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on position.
- Other certifications (e.g., PALS, NRP, CCRN) to be verified by position if applicable.
Documentation and Compliance
- Must provide official transcripts/diplomas or attestation if verification unsuccessful.
- State license verification required within 30 days of start.
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
- Employment verification required for up to 7 years; gaps over 30 days must be explained.
- Two professional references required within 3 years for clinical and allied acute care candidates.
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
- Completion of a job description review and conditional offer of employment attestation required before start.
- Religious exemption forms required if applicable for facial hair or vaccine exemptions.

- Photo for badge required (passport-style, color photo).
- Personal or auto insurance only required if position involves driving.
- Color blindness must be documented by a licensed healthcare provider if applicable.
- Medication and competency exams may be required as applicable to the profession.
- ICU or Telemetry competency exams may be required if applicable.
- Candidates with failed fit tests due to facial hair must shave and retest; religious exemptions considered case-by-case.
