    Description

    Registered Nurse (L&D) - Travel Contract

    Location: Silverdale, Washington
    Contract Length: 13 weeks


    Unit Overview

    • Birthing Center / Mother Baby unit with 34 total beds
      • 2 OR suites for C-sections
      • 2 triage beds
      • 14 postpartum beds
    • Average births: 150-180 per month (2,133 deliveries in 2022)
    • Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines:
      • Labor & Delivery: 1:2
      • Couplets (mother/baby): 1:3-4
    • 24/7 in-house OB/GYN hospitalist and Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) coverage
    • 24/7 OB anesthesia provider on unit
    • Respiratory therapist assigned to family birth area
    • Surgical tech available 24/7; patient care assistant with clerical duties on each shift
    • Telemetry/monitor techs available for PACU after C-section; RNs read their own strips
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity-perinatal

    Required Qualifications

    • Active Washington RN license (pending license submissions accepted; temp license takes ~4 weeks)
    • Minimum 2 years L&D nursing experience (1 year considered if multiple prior travel contracts completed)
    • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Preferred: Intermediate or advanced Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification
    • Must have LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) experience
    • Comfortable independently attending deliveries, circulating in C-sections, assisting with catching and transitioning babies
    • Able to titrate drips including Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin

    Experience & Skills

    • Experience with high-risk pregnancies including:
      • Patients 33 weeks gestation and above
      • Preeclampsia, diabetes, psychosocial issues, positive illicit substance use
    • Must be adaptable to unit workflows, policies, and open to feedback
    • No first-time travelers accepted; 2 years of references required with application

    Work Schedule & Environment

    • Night shift, 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
    • Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
    • Holiday rotation with permanent staff
    • Block scheduling available upon request
    • Standby call with 45-minute response time when applicable
    • Free charge nurse role on both shifts (charge nurse takes assignment)
    • No floating outside the Mother Baby unit; Labor travelers must also function in Postpartum with routine mom and baby competencies and attend low-risk deliveries
    • Scrubs and locker provided

    Orientation & Training

    • Unit-specific orientation includes:
      • 8 hours compliance training with manager
      • 8 hours EPIC electronic health record training
      • 2-3 twelve-hour shifts for unit orientation

    Unit Policies

    • Surgical hand scrub policy:
      • Remove all jewelry from hands and forearms
      • No artificial nails or enhancements (tips, acrylics, gels, nail art, etc.)
      • Natural fingernails only, clean and well-manicured, no longer than ¼ inch beyond fingertip
      • No open lesions or breaks in skin integrity on cuticles, hands, or forearms

    Additional Notes

    • Manager is supportive and provides feedback to ensure quality care
    • Travelers expected to be flexible and adaptable to unit practices and feedback
